My post taken from facebook
TL;DR — Mr. Fankhauser continues to rage farm, violate his constituents’ first amendment rights, avoid directly answering citizens’ questions, be less than truthful with residents about his intentions and his residency (according to his neighbors), attack another council member’s integrity, fail to live up to his promises twice, and drag an entire community and reputable private company that has been unwavering in their support of Bucyrus through a smear campaign. Dividing the community in an “Us vs. them” scenario, continuing to be less than truthful in the services provided to all nonprofits during uptown events, and unethically providing the city government “free internet” through his company, WaveLinc.
I was wondering how to summarize my feelings after the last city meeting. Like most people, I expect to be treated with courtesy and respect when posing legitimate questions to a government entity. I recently found out that certain individuals on the council do not live by the golden rule and do not do unto others as you wish them to do unto you. I have only asked reasonable questions to some pretty heavy accusations. If we put our community through such complex and scandalous allegations, and you genuinely feel that someone is acting illegally, wouldn’t you want to share the truth? If you believe so firmly and you are convinced that there is wrongdoing, wouldn’t you stand behind your own words and confirm your feelings with decisive words and actions?
Instead, my questions have been written off, ignored, and disregarded. When I was persistent in receiving an answer to the allegations, I was received with a “clucking hen” reference. A comment I stated during the last council that misogynistic men make about the women on the council to write off their legitimacy and authority as council members. The president of the City Council used this meme of a clucking hen stating I was “clucking” at him to describe me, one of his consitutients. Kurt Fankhauser refuses to take an affirmative stance on his allegations against the Bratwurst Festival and Kevin Myers – Bucyrus City Council At Large. I never took a firm stance if I was for or against the records provided; however, I can sniff out a liar or someone who has ill intentions, like a bloodhound. I stated we needed to prevent a “blood bath” of dissent among the council, the citizens, and the relationship with the festival; however, Mr. Fankhauser managed to wage an all-out war within 48 hours of the meeting putting a 50 plus year partnership in danger, and proving my point entirely. Mr. Fankhauser maintains his campaign of rage farming for clout as he proves he cannot produce any real results with legitimate governing. He has yet to be able to fulfill his duties of rallying the council together to fix this budget issue. Instead, he has focused on dragging the entire city through a smear campaign and hanging the Bratwurst Festival as the sacrificial lamb.
Mr. Fankhauser was on the council in 2021 when the agreement between the city and the festival was recertified. He did NOT bring his concerns to the council, community, or the festival at that time. Mr. Fankhauser was also aware of the looming budget crisis in 2021. Why didn’t he act then? What has changed? It could be argued that Mr. Fankhauser has continued to increase tensions within the council between himself and Mr. Myers and is now acting in a campaign of hate to dismantle Mr. Myers’ credibility, dragging the festival and the rest of the community along for the ride. He states it’s his ethical duty to do so.
Speaking of ethics… First-hand sources state that he does NOT live at 616 Prospect. The roughly 1,000 sq. ft. 15,000 dollars “fixer-upper” (according to Zillow) has windows covered with curtains and shutters, no lights are ever on, and no vehicles drive in and out of that location, according to neighbors. Is it ethical to misrepresent your “abode?” Yes, the Crawford County Republican Party was happy to accept “proof of residency” by affirming that since it is the address he is registered to vote at, he is, in fact, a resident of that location. Why? One could speculate that it was for internal political reasons that he ran for the open ward position in Bucyrus, as there was a vacancy and no other individuals were running or perhaps blocking an unfavorable candidate. Is this where Mr. Fankhauser indeed returns to every day? His “neighbors” say no. Yet, the council requires YOU, the people, to tell your name and residential address whenever you speak at the council meeting. Is Mr. Fankhauser exempt from the rules?
He speaks on ethics, yet his company, WaveLinc, is the internet service provider for at least city hall, supposedly free of charge. How is that ethical? I have more information on this issue that I am still waiting to disclose.
He also runs a campaign on protecting your constitutional rights. Speaking of rights… it is against his constituents constitutional first amendment right to block them on Facebook when Mr. Fankhauser uses his personal Facebook page to disseminate information to the public, ask for feedback, and participate in the public forum in an official capacity. This has already been determined by the U.S. Supreme court in Lindke v. Freed. Kurt has a history of blocking constituents when he disagrees with them or provides any public criticism. Again, this is a violation of his constituent’s First Amendment rights. ( I shall see how long I can keep him tagged in this post.)
Finally, the council needs to brush up on their case law. Any time you communicate in a capacity that is operating in an official capacity, you can be requested to provide that data. It doesn’t matter if it’s your cell phone, your Facebook, or your grandma Bertha’s cell phone. You’ll need to provide that information according to the Sunshine Laws in Ohio. Just keep that in mind while information continues to come out about Kurt’s campaign against Kevin Myers and the festival.
I like people who do what they say they’re going to do. Fix the budget, unite the council, and be a more transparent Bucyrus, but we can’t be out here holding on to twice false promises. Especially if Mr. Fankhauser cannot be transparent about his intentions, residency, and allegations against a fellow council member and the Bratwurst Festival. He’s had his chance twice now, and neither has he lived up to his promises. Before, his excuse was that the “prior administration” did not cooperate with him. What will his excuse be now? The council isn’t cooperating with him? Is it simply he doesn’t have the confidence of the council to be a decisive leader. He isn’t decisive in his words and actions as a council president. It’s appears it is always someone else’s fault in Mr. Fankhauser’s world.
